Lee Kum Kee Lantern Wonderland (20110906-190144)

As the highlight of “Hong Kong Mid-Autumn Festival”, the “Lee Kum Kee Lantern Wonderland” is entirely sponsored by Lee Kum Kee in its production cost. Its centrepiece – a record-breaking fish-shape sculpture made from over a thousand traditional Chinese lanterns – measures 37 metres long, 9.6 metres wide and 13 metres tall. The design concept was selected through a design competition organised by the HKTB in collaboration with Hong Kong Ambassadors of Design, Hong Kong Designers Association and Hong Kong Institute of Architects, and is inspired by the traditional goldfish lantern. The lively fish suggests that Hong Kong, as vibrant Asia’s World City, offers myriads world-class dining and entertainment experiences to visitors.

Built by Hong Kong’s own bamboo scaffolding technique and surrounded by small fish lanterns, the mega fish is perfect for photo-taking from afar.

Hong Kong New Year Countdown Celebrations (20110101-000204)

The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) once again stage the Hong Kong New Year Countdown Celebrations on 31 December, 2010.

This year, the HKTB will bring in new visual effects to the pyrotechnic display, including numeric patterns for the countdown. The combination of colourful patterns and movements atop the buildings will symbolise a soaring dragon, which is set to light up the spectacular, world-famous Victoria Harbour.

Celebration Happy New Year (20110101-000358)

In the last 10 seconds preceding 2011, pyrotechnics carrying the patterns of numbers 10 to 1 will be launched one by one atop Two ifc and nine selected buildings on Hong Kong Island to lead spectators in a citywide countdown. As the clock strikes midnight, a four-minute choreographed musical pyrotechnical show will commence. During the show, pyrotechnics will be ignited on both sides and atop Two ifc, as well as the top of the other nine buildings. As well as special visual treats, the display will symbolise a colourful dragon soaring up the sky above Victoria Harbour to stand for further progress of Hong Kong’s economy in 2011.
