Human powered four wheel 24-hour races started in 1986 and was modelled on the event at Bristol University, UK, which dates from 1961. The UK still has a Pedal Car Racing Federation active in half a dozen annual events.

Hong Kong Grand Prix, previously known as Pedal is a long-established charity race in Hong Kong, which has raised over million of dollars for charity since its inception. The whole event was organised up to and including Pedal 2000 by HK Round Table 3. This particular Table later merged into Round Table 10 and thereafter, the Hong Kong Human Powered Vehicle Association (HKHPVA), which is now dedicated to organizing the race and others like it.

The Hong Kong Pedal Kart Grand Prix was held in November 2008 at Victoria Park. This was Hong Kong’s 22nd pedal kart race orgainised by the Hong Kong Human Powered Vehicle Association since the first race started in 1986.
